About UPSWIC

The Uttar Pradesh State Water Informatics Centre (UPSWIC) is a State-level dedicated institution for the coordination, collection, validation, analysis, and dissemination of water resources data.

Established with the support and collaboration of the **National Water Informatics Centre (NWIC)** under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, UPSWIC functions as a specialized body to establish a regular and systematic mechanism for collecting periodic water-related data from various State departments and organizations.

The core purpose of UPSWIC is to enable better planning and management of water resources at the State level by making authenticated and standardized data available online through digital platforms. Through coordination with NWIC, UPSWIC strengthens basin-level planning and regional water policies.

Establishing a robust, reliable, and integrated State-level water information system.

UPSWIC envisions empowering Uttar Pradesh with authenticated, standardized, and digitally accessible water resources data for effective planning, management, and policy formulation. The Centre aims to serve as the centralized knowledge and data backbone for addressing water-related challenges through technology-driven, GIS-enabled, and data-centric solutions.

Key Functions of UPSWIC

Data Collection

Collection of water-related data from various State departments and creation of new databases in standardized GIS formats.

Validation & Dissemination

Maintenance, updating, reconciliation, validation, and dissemination of water-related data for stakeholders.

GIS & Mapping

Developing value-added maps using multi-layer GIS tools for integrated monitoring, assessment, and feedback.

Data Sharing

Sharing time-series and geospatial data between the Centre and other States through NWIC platforms.

Analytics & DSS

Development of reports, dashboards, applications, and decision support systems (DSS) based on collected data.

UP-WRIS & WIMS

Development of UP-WRIS as the dissemination platform and sharing data with NWIC through the WIMS portal.

UP-WRIS Platform

A comprehensive web-based platform for disseminating water resources data across Uttar Pradesh, facilitating basin-level planning and regional water policies.

WIMS Integration

Seamlessly sharing state-validated data with the National Water Informatics Centre through the centralized Water Information Management System.

The **Irrigation & Water Resources Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh** has been designated as the Lead Department, and the **Chief Engineer, Information System Organisation (ISO)** has been nominated as the Nodal Officer for the establishment and operation of UPSWIC.
